Wadjda, aged 10 and a tomboy, loves bicycles! She wants to race with her friend Abdullah, but the grownups around her, who respect strict Islamic rules and follow age-old traditions, are strongly against her playing with a boy, let alone riding a bicycle. One day Wadjda spots a bicycle in a shop window and falls in love with it, but she would never save up enough money to buy it by doing odd jobs. She then decides to take part in a Koran recitation competition at school for its prize money.
