- Documentary
- Japan/2004/22 min.
- Director: Hiroko Kumagai
Story
Tazuko Sakane was the first woman in Japan to direct films, yet she is largely unknown. She directed one feature-length drama, and she also made ten films for the Manchuria Film Association. After the war, however, she could not even gain a position as an assistant director due to her lack of a university degree and her gender. She spent the rest of her life as a scripter. This short documentary takes a closer look at her life.
